Why this site exists
Pet Friendly Albania began with a simple frustration: when we moved to Albania with our own animals, the information we needed was scattered across forums, outdated forum threads, and half-translated government pages. There was no single, trustworthy place in English that pulled it all together. So we built one.
Today the site is a complete resource for expats, immigrants, and travelers bringing dogs and cats to Albania, covering the import paperwork, airlines and border crossings, health risks, veterinary care, pet supplies, and pet-friendly housing.
What we cover
- A step-by-step moving guide for importing pets, including microchip, rabies, and health certificate rules by country.
- A directory of vets and pet businesses organized by city, with contacts and services.
- A pet-friendly rentals section and practical advice on finding a landlord who welcomes animals.
- An expat blog with first-hand guides on dog parks, beaches, vet costs, leishmaniasis prevention, and more.
How we compile our information
Our listings and guides are researched from primary sources wherever possible: the Albanian State Veterinary Inspectorate, USDA APHIS, the EU TRACES system, airline pet policies, and direct contact with clinics and businesses. We are based in Albania and update the site regularly as rules, clinics, and contact details change.
Independent and free
Pet Friendly Albania is independent. We are not affiliated with any government body, airline, clinic, or rental platform, and a listing on our site is never paid placement. The core resources are free to use. We also offer an optional in-depth downloadable guide for readers who want everything in one printable PDF.
